Who Should Apply

This bursary is open to South African citizens who are currently in Matric or have completed Matric. Applicants must be intending to study, or currently be studying, towards their first undergraduate or Honours degree or diploma on a full-time basis at a recognised and accredited public University or University of Technology in South Africa. The programme prioritises students with a strong academic record, specifically those who have passed Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy) in Matric and achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for the 2026 academic year (or for their current tertiary studies). Crucially, applicants must demonstrate proven financial need, assessed through household income. Students under 18 years of age will require consent from a parent or legal guardian.

The bursary is specifically aimed at students pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, as well as those focusing on Green Economy skills. These skills are defined as areas of study aimed at improving social well-being and equity, reducing environmental risks, enhancing natural capital, and increasing energy and materials efficiency. Applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for all subjects aligned with their chosen university qualification.

Why This Bursary Stands Out

The Nedbank External Bursary Programme offers more than just financial assistance; it provides a pathway to a potential career within a leading financial institution. By supporting students in STEM and Green Economy fields, Nedbank is investing in critical areas for South Africa's future development and sustainability. Recipients benefit from the prestige of being associated with Nedbank, a company known for its commitment to corporate social responsibility and economic empowerment. This bursary can open doors to valuable networking opportunities, potential mentorship, and a clearer route towards securing employment in a dynamic and growing sector.

The programme's focus on both academic merit and financial need ensures that opportunities are extended to those who truly require support to achieve their educational goals. The comprehensive nature of the bursary, covering various study-related expenses, significantly alleviates the financial burden on students and their families. This allows recipients to concentrate fully on their academic pursuits and personal development, thereby maximising their chances of success and future contributions to South Africa.
