Bestmed Medical Scheme is offering an exceptional opportunity through its Actuarial Internship Programme based in Pretoria, Gauteng. Running for a 12-month period from February 2027 to January 2028, this structured internship is tailored for ambitious actuarial science graduates who are eager to transform their academic knowledge into practical industry expertise within the South African medical scheme sector. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced healthcare actuaries and risk analysts, gaining hands-on exposure to statistical modeling, data analytics, financial forecasting, and risk management in a dynamic corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Validation: Clean, structure, and analyze large healthcare and claim datasets to support actuarial evaluations.
Financial & Risk Modeling: Assist in building and refining quantitative models to evaluate medical scheme risk profiles and product performance.
Pricing & Product Support: Contribute to statistical research used for healthcare option pricing, benefit design, and financial forecasting.
Reporting & Documentation: Prepare analytical reports and visual summaries detailing risk metrics for management and regulatory review.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with clinical, risk, and financial teams to solve complex operational and healthcare challenges.
