Amazon Web Services (AWS) is offering an exciting opportunity for ambitious technical graduates and students through the Data Center Engineering Operations Internship based in Cape Town, Western Cape. As an Engineering Operations Technician Intern, you will gain hands-on experience maintaining the critical physical and electrical infrastructure behind the world's largest cloud provider. This six-month full-time internship serves as a direct pathway to permanent employment for top-performing candidates looking to build a long-term engineering career in South Africa's booming cloud technology sector.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain critical infrastructure: Perform routine and preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, including switchgear, UPS units, and standby diesel generators.
Troubleshoot facility events: Assist senior technicians with rapid root cause analysis and equipment troubleshooting within strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Monitor environmental systems: Inspect and maintain cooling towers, chillers, Air Handling Units (AHUs), chemical treatment systems, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
Operational logging: Take and record daily operational readings of all facility plant equipment to ensure 99.999% cloud uptime.
Workflow administration: Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to document work orders, site activities, and equipment service history.
Vendor coordination: Escort, oversee, and collaborate with specialized third-party engineering contractors on site.

Requirements
South African citizen with a valid South African Identity Document, aged 35 years or younger, and currently unemployed.
Completed or due to complete a recognized higher education qualification (NQF Level 4 to 6) or a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field).
Proficient in professional English communication (both written and verbal).
Strong team collaboration, prioritization, and time management skills.
Willingness to commit to a 6-month full-time internship on site and work rotational shift patterns if transitioned to a permanent role.
Knowledge of HVAC systems, building automation, or project management principles is advantageous.
Reliable private transport to the data center facility is preferred due to shift schedules.
