Job Description
The Durban University of Technology (DUT), a leading institution proudly located in the vibrant cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg along South Africa's warm east coast, is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join its Faculty of Health Sciences, specifically within the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Technology. Summary of Duties
- Undertake practical training and assessment for students.
- Conduct student practicals in the Clinical Technology Skills Laboratory.
- Co-ordinate Clinical Practice rotations for students.
- Monitor students’ progress in Clinical Practice as required.
- Co-ordination and invigilation of theoretical assessments.
- Ensure quality control in the Clinical Technology Skills Laboratory.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
- Co-ordination of discretionary clinical grant and other institutional budgets.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff in clinical training and DUT through traditional and online platforms.
- Get involved in community engagement projects.
- Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Head of Department.
- Work collegially with team members towards attaining the goals of the department, faculty and institution.

Requirements
- BHSC or BTech in Clinical Technology.
- Specialised in either Critical care, Cardiology or Cardiovascular perfusion.
- Registration with HPCSA as a Graduate Clinical Technologist.
- One-year experience in a Clinical Technology Training unit.
- Experience in training of students in Clinical Practice in Clinical Technology.
- Good organisational and administrative skills.
- Networking and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in numeracy and calculations.
- Proficiency in communications skills.
- A motivated self-starter, responsible and accountable individual and a team player.
- Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Power-point, internet and email use.
- Keenness to upgrade qualifications.
- Keenness to register for Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Technology after a year in the post.
