Position Purpose
The purpose of this apprenticeship is to prepare apprentices to operate independently and productively, in preparation for becoming a competent qualified artisan. The apprentice welder will be trained to plan and prepare, manufacture, assemble, inspect, commission installations and assemblies, modify and repair components, and apply the knowledge and skills obtained in a variety of contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare work site, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials for trade-related activities and operations.
- Utilise various hand, power, and measuring tools effectively and safely.
- Install, assemble, fit, and connect electrical equipment and control systems relevant to welding operations.
- Test, inspect, commission, maintain, and repair electrical equipment, control systems, and installations.
- Apply acquired knowledge and skills in diverse operational contexts within Transnet's facilities.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and quality standards throughout all tasks.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure project completion.

Requirements
- Completed either N2 - N6 Certificate with the following subjects: relevant Trade Theory, Engineering Science, Mathematics and any other relevant subject.
- OR NCV Level 4 certificate with the relevant trade theory, Mathematics, and vocational subjects.
- OR Technical Grade 12: Mathematics, Physical Science, and relevant trade theory.
- Must have passed Mathematics with 50% and above.
- Must not have a trade certificate (Red Seal).
- Age between 18 and 30.
- Must be a South African Citizen.
